Little fish. These weird creatures, with totally mad eyes, live in braincoral. I don’t know their exact name and what they do for a living, but it seems that they make a small tunnel in the coral.

They stick their heads out, whenever something yummy drifts by.

I’m currently busy (besides my internship ofcourse) with doing the PADI nightdive speciality. Yesterday I had my second nightdive.
As always it was magnificent, but still the Gods had some awesomeness left for the group: an octopus ! It took some effort and a lot of swimming around / waving with torches, but I did manage to get a few pictures of it.

And a few more pictures of fish ! Did some more experimenting with the camera and trying to adjust my divingskills to make some better pictures (a couple of extra pounds lead does some real magic ). Despite it’s a point and shoot camera and i get tons of out of focus picture, a few extra dives, some more patience, taking extra shots and reading some articles is key.

Anyways here come two pictures I’m pretty happy with. Both were taken at Curacao, the divespot was “Tugboat”, depth around 6 meters.

Well first of all: major thanks to my little brother for lending me his canon ixus with an underwaterhousing !

I have passed my final PADI-exam about a week ago but sadly didn’t spend any time on trying to take pictures (there was so much beautiful stuff to see on the reef, but I wanted to focus on learning my dive skills as good as possible Also my floating abilities aren’t up to par really yet so stuff like going for a nice composition are still reall hard to achieve).

Anyways: here a small collection I made today while snorkling with a few friends.

1. here everything worked out just fine, using a bit of flash, a bit of luck and managing to release the shutter at a pretty decent moment

2. well here it worked out a bit worst ;P Just an example why you actually want a really decent flash in stead of using the onboard one :/

3. nop, this is NOT Dory from Finding Nemo. They swim around here in pretty massive schools. Just one gigantic blue flash, lovely to watch

4. the result of swimming head on into a school of fish, evasive moves all over the place.

5. same school of fish, just the other side (and tons of debree in the water)

6. can’t recall the name of these buggers, but the pattern on their side is just amazing to gaze at, so join me in gazing

7. macro of a little wormlike creature, crawling over the bottom.

Sadly enough, there will be no more updates on this blog till somewhere around the end of july.

Enjoying the great life at Curacao, I once again (second f*cking time in a year) was faced with a robbery, losing all my gear.

Hopefully I will see you return as soon as I’m back in the Netherlands and bought new gear from the insurance money, till then I wish you a good phototime, take care, watch your gear and just browse to some of the blogs that are in my links to view some great pictures.

Today we were supposed to start with our first part for the PADI dive certification, unluckely enough, me and a friend first need to get a medical clearance. Ah well, we ended up renting some snorkling gear. Still fun.

It also gave me an opportunity to practive some more on underwaterphotography. Still it’s a pretty hard thing to do and snorkling doesn’t make it easier. You get thrashed around by the waves, only have a few seconds to try to make your composition, focus and fire off the shot. The results are: an empty battery (took me 2 hours to drain it completely), tons of misfires and a few which are reasonable. So here the few come ! Hope you enjoy.
