playing with el cheapo flashstudio
well, I improvised a “real” studio setup to abuse my flash a bit. The background was made of glossy photopaper, white blanket to bounce of on top of all and a cheap set of chess pieces as subject. After a half an hour it turned out that playing with the composition was more fun (but I guess that pretty much shows
)
first up was still a bit toying around with the flashsettings to see what results I could get. Well, with some hard flashing and a bit of lightroom, the result tends more to a 3d-render

after understanding the different effects some more (and taking tons of garbage pictures), it was time for fun fun fun ! And without any drama there can’t be any fun, can there ? Titled “the orange king is dead”, I’m pretty proud of the result. Maybe some more finetuning is needed, though I believe that with reflections and shadows this tends to be the best result I can reach currently.

And even more drama when white takes on red. I think that with some more work on the reflection and next time not trying to cut away half of the subjects it would be better.

That’s all for this set, hope you enjoyed !
